The Healing Process of a Cosmetic Brow Tattoo: What You Need to Know.
GETTING THE RESULTS THAT YOU WANT
Your pre-care and aftercare routine is responsible for 80% of your healed results. To achieve the best possible outcome for your cosmetic eyebrow tattoo, it’s critical that you follow the instructions you are given by me with NO exceptions. Deciding to have a cosmetic tattoo requires you to be patient and trust the healing process.
Your brows will go through several stages as they heal, and the timings I’ve outlined below will vary from person to person, so don’t compare your experience to someone else’s.
Here’s what you can expect during the healing process and the answers to the most commonly asked questions.
THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF THE HEALING PROCESS
Stage 1: (Day 1-3)
Immediately after your brow procedure I will blot your brows to remove any lymph, and apply some balm. I will then give you a leaflet, and explain the aftercare in full giving you the chance to ask me any of your questions. There will be some swelling, and the pigment might appear more intense for the first couple of days. DO NOT PANIC if the colour looks too dark.
Stage 2: (Day 3-7)
As the skin cells regenerate the brows will start to flake which will resemble a mild dandruff in the brows. During this time the brows will feel itchy. Be careful not to irritate the skin or to remove the flakes too soon.
Stage 3: (Day 5-10)
As the skin begins to peel/flake off, your brows may appear significantly lighter or patchy. This is completely normal. The colour loss is temporary.
Stage 4: (Day 10-28)
The colour will push back through around week 4, it will look a little patchy and uneven. This is normal and is the purpose of your complimentary retouch appointment.
Stage 5: (Day 28-42) The Retouch Appointment
You will come back for a your retouch where I will make any necessary tweaks to the shape/colour. The pigment will be reintroduced to the skin ONLY in the areas that need it. The healing process will then begin again, and the aftercare MUST be followed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
One brow is healing quicker than the other is this normal?
Yes. Healing is unique to each individual and it’s common for one side to heal quicker than the other. Or for the timings to vary.
Is it definitely normal for the colour to fade?
Yes, it’s completely normal for your brows to turn patchy during the healing process. Some of the colour will push back through as your skin heals, the results require two sessions and this is the purpose of the retouch appointment.
It’s been 3 weeks and the colour hasn’t pushed back through is this normal?
Yes! The timings vary from person to person.
What happens if my brows scab?
Mild flaking is to be expected as the surface of the tattoo peels away, however, if your brows form thick scabs this is due to the client failing to remove the lymph correctly. If this happens DO NOT get the scabs wet, pick, peel, or remove the scabs prematurely. This will result in pigment loss and potential scar tissue.
I can see a few teeny areas i’d like to tweak can this be done?
Yes, this is the purpose of the retouch appointment, it allows me to make any necessary refinements and perfect your brows.
After the top up some areas of my brows look darker is this okay?
Yes, the purpose of the top up is to fill in any areas that need it. So there will be some areas that I don't touch. The colour will all blend in once they’re fully healed.
What happens if I get an infection or I think i’m having an allergic reaction?
While allergic reactions and infections are extremely rare, and none of my clients have experienced them, it’s important to seek medical advice immediately if you suspect either. Please inform me as well, so I can update your records. I am not medically trained, so I cannot provide treatment or advice for such situations. This is the only time you should reach out to me during the healing process.
Trust the process, I’ve got you covered!
By sticking to the aftercare and trusting the healing process, you’ll achieve the beautiful, natural brows that you’re looking for.
